The story behind Cymension
Setting up a blog boggled my mind for quite a while now, but really the catalyst was my over-100-pages-long notes on takeaways and lesson learned from professional training, conferences and engagements. It was these notes that triggered the decision for going public, sharing what could potentially be of interest to like-minded professionals, same way I have benefited from others writing and talking in a public setting.
Apart from all the lengthy notes and drawings, there is a lot more that weighted in eventually setting up Cymension. Need to say that the whole process of setting up the blog, from finding the right hosting platform to picking up the right name has been rather entertaining! Maybe one day I 'll write more on that very topic.
Why a new blog
I have always been fond of "modest documentation", an approach that doesn't overwhelm you but it doesn't compromise on quality either. It isn't that I have a fetich spending time writing unnecessarily, quite the contrary. I enjoy writing just to the point that the text doesn't defeat the purpose of :
- Having a trail of thoughts and reflections on professional engagements
- Being able to revisit this trail and collect information that support my work in the present time and in the future
Confidential info, needless to say, won't find a way into this blog. The goal is sharing the thoughts with like-minded professional on a setting like Cymension, instead of keeping it private. That has multiple benefits:
- Sharing what it could bring value to others
- Get ideas and thoughts challenged or endorsed
- Collect constructive feedback, refine and progress
- Eventually build an archive on domain knowledge
What I aim at
What is more natural than writing on topics I enjoy reading and and thinking about in a professional context? Cyber defence, offense, and threat intel are things I work with daily.
I 've spent a considerable part of my career working for SOC/CSIRT. Lately, my focus has shifted in the offensive elements of security and threat intelligence. It comes with no surprise that these are topics I will be blogging about. Whenever possible, I will attempt to make the posts relevant to the Financial Services domain. There are so many exciting things happening in the field!
So here is the aspirations:
- Explore ideas and spark dialogue
- Collect, consolidate and present
- Share own experience while learning
- Further developing on existing briliant ideas
Stay tuned!
